Carloway FC were saddened to hear of the passing on Wednesday 29th October of one of our long term supporters Donald John Macleod (Domhnall Iain’a Corr) of 5 Kirvick Carloway, aged 81 years. He had been residing in the Leverburgh Home of Rest for the last year of his life. Prior to going into the care home, he spent 4 months in Hospital.
Donald John was a true gentleman, quiet, modest and unassuming: just basically a very nice man.
Up until ill health prevented his attendance a few years ago, he was always a regular attendee at Cnoc a Coillich as well as following Carloway FC to away fixtures around the Highlands and Islands. To his immense credit Domhnall Iain could never be termed as a “fairweather supporter” as he always consistently turned up at our fixtures to provide support irrespective of how well or badly the team were performing. One cant forget that he also had a lifelong interest in another team who play in blue and white, Glasgow Rangers FC.
After leaving school he initially worked for The Singer Sewing Machine Company in Clydebank and then for a time at the UKAEA site at Dounreay. Following that he then worked for many years on oil platforms as, a mechanical fitter, latterly on the LOGGS facility in the Southern North Sea (off the Lincolnshire coast ) operated by ConocoPhillips. One of his former senior managers said of him that he was “hard working, diligent and hugely respected”
He will be sadly missed by not only everyone involved with Carloway FC but by all who knew him.
Carloway FC therefore wish to extend their condolences to his wife Catriona and his sons David and Mark at this very sad time. We also wish to extend our condolences to the rest of his immediate family.
