Carloway FC were saddened to hear of the passing of one of our former players Norman “Dokus” Macdonald from Ardroil in the early hours of the morning of Monday 6th April. Dokus was an integral member of the team, along with a few other fellow “Uigeachs” after our return to the league in 1978 where he played mainly as a left winger or as goalkeeper. Dokus was also well known as a local councillor and latterly as Convener of Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, positions in which he was very supportive of Carloway FC.

The “Dokus connection” with the club continued after he stopped playing as both his sons played with distinction for Carloway FC: Kenny is both the all-time leading goalscorer and top appearance maker for the club; Peter was not only a former, longtime player but has been the Carloway FC manager on two occasions and, as recently as last year, he guided the team to victory in the Jock Stein Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Highland Amateur Cup. Dokus was a keen supporter during these years and enjoyed the success his sons helped bring to the club. In addition, his nephew Hamish Macdonald and grandson Ali “Barbie” Macdonald were members of our EAF Cup winning team of 2023 and currently play for the club.

Carloway FC therefore wish to extend their condolences to his wife Pat, and to Peter, Kenny and daughter Sarah at this sad time. We also wish to extend our condolences to the rest of the immediate family.
